Alopecia causes severe hair loss due to various causes and appears in various forms. It is a condition to which 70% of men are likely to be exposed in the future, with 50% of them being aged up to 50 years. Classic androgenetic alopecia is characterized by 3 main features:

What causes androgenetic alopecia?

In men, most of the time the appearance of this condition is due to genetic factors. More specifically, when the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hormone is present, which acts on specific parts of the head, causing intense hair loss.

How can you tell if you have androgenetic alopecia?

The best way to know if you have alopecia is to see a dermatologist. The main clinical features of the condition are the following:

  • Receding hairline on the forehead and temples
  • Weakening of the hair on the top of the head
  • Characteristic thinning in the parting area

One of the most well-known methods of clinical diagnosis is the trichorosogram. In this examination, photographs are taken of a specific point on the head at regular intervals. Then, the results are processed through a specialized software and the conclusion is issued. This specific examination is carried out 3-5 days after bathing.
