Getting a wig can be essential for many people who are dealing with difficult conditions such as hair loss due to cancer or other conditions. Fortunately, the Hellenic Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY) offers compensation for the purchase of a wig.

Today, we will try to provide you with all the necessary information to apply for wig compensation from EOPYY.

First, you should contact your doctor, as long as he is a dermatologist or an oncologist. We often hear that the doctor who can prescribe a wig should only work in a public hospital. This is no longer the case. You can also be served by a private practice.

Bonus Tip: For the prescription of a wig for diseases such as alopecia, you can contact either a private dermatology practice or public health facilities, such as the Andreas Syggros Hospital in Athens or the Venereal and Skin Diseases Hospital in Thessaloniki. For chemotherapy, simply contact the oncologist who is attending you.

The National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPPY) compensates you with 75% of the purchase price of the Wig up to the upper limit of 189.75 euros . This means that if you buy a wig with a price of 500 euros, although 75% corresponds to the amount of 375 euros, you will be compensated with the higher amount which is 189.75 euros. You are entitled to compensation every 2 years .

In addition to EOPPY, some insurance companies offer additional coverage for part or all of the wig purchase cost in the event of a medical problem. We recommend that you contact your insurance advisor to obtain more information about this feature and the conditions that apply.

ATTENTION : The wig prescription date must be earlier than the wig purchase receipt date and the paperwork must be submitted within one month of the prescription date, otherwise you cannot receive the reimbursement.

The supporting documents that you should submit to EOPPY are the following:

1. A valid and active bank account number (IBAN), in which you are the sole beneficiary or co-beneficiary
2. The prescription paper
3. Wig purchase receipt, stamped and signed by the company where the purchase was made and showing the date of purchase, the patient's name and the product purchased.

The submission of supporting documents can be done electronically or in person in the following ways:

1. By appointment at the EOPYY Regional Offices (PE.DI.) , the KEP or the National Organization for the Provision of Health Services (EOPYY).
2. Electronically through the Single Digital Portal of public administration (EPSP - gov.gr)

If you choose the electronic way of submitting the application, you will follow the instructions below:

1. Enter the page https://www.gov.gr/ipiresies/ugeia-kai-pronoia/iatropharmakeutike-perithalpse/apozemiose-tekhnetes-komes
2. Select " Log in to the service " .
3. You connect with the taxisnet codes.
4. Fill in the AMKA in the field that will be requested and press the "Login" button.
5. Once the process is complete you will find on the home page a button that says "Submit an Individual Request" .
6. In the subject of the request we select "Wig compensation" and after selecting in the items "Applies to: the same" , our information is automatically displayed.
7. We fill in the IBAN and the amount (in the requested amount we fill in the exact amount of the wig purchase receipt).
8. In " Details of opinion " we select the opinion and transfer it to "Selected".
9. We attach the receipt and the proof that settles the IBAN we declared for the payment of the compensation
10. Check the mandatory fields and finally submit the application .

As soon as the protocol number appears, the submission of the request has been successfully completed, finally the money is usually paid to the account you have declared within approximately 30 working days from the date of submission of the request.
